Hi Folks,
It's good to see the increase in persons who are putting up web
pages. This helps to get the data "into the open" where we can all
examine it at our leisure and help to hone it to a zero-defect state
by pointing out the inevitable errors that creep into such a large
volume of data.
I particularly applaud Charles who is putting together a comprehensive
CATE/CATES web page. I considered doing something like that earlier
this year, but since most of my relatives were born in and continued
to live in the Orange County area of North Carolina, I decided to
simply concentrate on ALL families that once lived in Orange County.
Hence, I have established the web page titled "Olde Orange County
Families of North Carolina". The particular features of this page
include:
1. all families that ever lived in the original area that was Orange
County (including current Alamance, Person, Caswell, etc)
2. original sources cited for each person
3. two views of the data - one is a tree chart and the other is a
family group view.
4. when a person or family leaves the Orange County area, I hope to
provide some information about where the family went so that a
researcher can pick them up in the new location.
This will be a huge job and what you will find on the page today
represents only the very beginning of this effort. I have more Cates
info than is shown on the page, but I'm trying to get together the
sources before I post it. You will also find persons already posted
who don't have citations, but I'm trying to get to that as quickly
as I can. I'm currently going through the 1850 Orange County census and
adding all families to the page. This will be followed by the other
censuses.
This is intended as a service to other researchers. If you wish to
contribute to this effort, rather than sending me long linages now,
it would be more helpful to examine what is there and let me know
about errors and about any families that connect where I don't have
them connected.
The address for the page is at the bottom of this message. At the
main page, click on "table of contents" and then either on "tree
view" or "family view". I hope you find something that helps!
Happy Holidays to all!
