Hello. I am researching the Civil War regiment 4th Tennessee
Cavalry (Union), and in Co A there were two CATE men who served
in the upper command. I see from the archives that Bettye
Heinrich did already forward the information about these men that I
had posted to the Bradley Co. mailing list.
I am resubmitting the data on these men in order to hopefully get
some leads as to how these two were related to each other.
John T. Cate age 27, 6 ft, farmer. Enlisted on 24 May 1863 in
Nashville. Promoted to 1st Sgt on 30 April 1864. Taken prisoner on 31
July 1864 near Atlanta. Parolled on 24 February 1865 at Aiken's
Landing.
William Cate age 23 6 ft 1", schoolteacher. Enlisted 24 May 1863 in
Nashville. Promoted to Sgt in July 1863 - to 1st Lt in April 1864.
(addition: promoted to Captain of the Company Oct 18, 1864). Taken
prisoner on 6 August 1864 south of Atlanta on McCook's raid.
Exchanged on 28 sept 1864.
Any info would be appreciated
