Someone ask me to explain how the DNA results are safe from giving someone
usable information about a given person so:
Firstly, The project has Security set up which is better than most. There is
never "perfect Security" but there are industry standards. The site meets
them.
There are literally millions of DNA markers. The ones used for the
Genealogical research are often referred to as junk markers because they
have no real value in-and-of themselves.
You could actually stand on a street corner and hand out copies of your
results and there isnt a thing anyone could do with them. They only have
meaning within the confines of the study because all members of the study
use the same markers.
They can identify absolutely nothing about you except your relationship to
people who have the same markers with the same value. It is not possible to
take the values from the testing and say ah! This is Bruce Cates! unless
its in the context of study and maybe not even then.
Hope this helps!
