parents, gf, and ggf named in article.

pg 479 The CATE/S family was well established in Meigs CO TN. Daniel CATES
m. Ava Elder (of the Jefferson CO Elders). Robert E. Cates was born
near the town of Decatur, 1 Sept 1830. He taught school in both
Meigs and Hamilton counties. In
1858 he married Arminda Stephenson (b 1834 McMinn CO). The family
scattered and a Robert cates went to TX from McMinn CO, and I think
he was Sherriff of a county of which Decatur was the county seat.

pg 484 The CATE/S family also had come down from Jefferson County. John B.
Cates was
b in 1810 near Dandridge in Jefferson CO. He was the son of Thomas
Cates who married Ava Wilhite. Thomas Cate was born in VA but died
in McMinn CO and he came there before the Indians were removed to
the West. Ava Wilhite was born in SC. John B. Cates was one of 9
children born of this Thomas Cates. John B. Cates m1 Tanzy Brandon,
who died in Polk CO. He m2 Sarah Griffin, dght of Sanders Griffin
of Polk CO. They had 1 son & 2 dhgts.
pg 526 History of NC Baptists by Geo. W. Paschal pg 407 In 1790 Three
churches of the Sandy Creek Association were in Chatham CO NC. The
strongest church of the association was the Haw River Church which
had 320 members. Thomas Cate was an assistant elder (lay minister?)
pg 760 Anderson Cates was a member of the 1st grand jury of Lake CO. The
jury was formed in Oct 1871.
pg 762 Anderson Cates was from Orange Co NC where he m. Susan Box. He
attended the University in Knoxville, then settled in Lake CO. they
had 2 sons, Council C. Cates and Reuben Cates
NOTE!!!! I DO NOT vouch for the correctness of any of the above data. It is
strictly from the bk and was apparently Mr. Ray's own research.
