McClary died July 10, 1858 at age 37. Payne buried her on the farm, on the
ridge above the house and it was called McClary graveyard. Apparently she was
the first person buried in the graveyard. When their son, Jacob, died in 1865,
he was buried beside his mother. Payne's will is dated May 4, 1868 and he died
on May 10, 1868. His will requested that tombstones be erected for the three
of them. He left one acre of land for the graveard.
Doctor F. Pollard bought part of the McClary farm and gave additional
land for the graveyard. The name was changed to Pollards Cemetery. (Historical

I am always hesitant to post -- as I am a relatively new researcher. I owe a
lot of my progress to AL in IL and TexasJane2 .... I was quite frankly
surprised to find that I had a Cate ancestor -- and it appears I had several!
I also feel extremely fortunate that an aunt in Florida tracked down two old
photos she remembered as a child. I have photos of Malinda Underwood-Hancock
with her husband Isaac Lafatt Hancock as well as Jessie Pollard with wife
Malinda 'Sarah' Cate that I am always delighted to share.
