To All,
Charles Dorian posted the information on the churches, which I am very
interested in. The Holston Association minutes should be in the archives??
Yes, I have read about Holston being Holstein/Holstien. I have a question
for everyone? Knowing where the Long Island Church of the Holstien/which
it was called and the location being known. We also know that "John Cate
seener" and "James Mainor" came from that church, which the first minutes
of
the Dumplin (was once known as Dumpling) church refers to.
Where (on a map) was the Opossum tract which John Cate & wife Mary purchased
and sold? Probably never living on it. In 1989 "The Annals of Southwest
Virginia" by Lewis Preston Summers listed the property and I found the name
John Cate and among other owners I found a Silas Inyard/Enyard and another
Enyard.
This Opossum Creek tract is not on the maps in the books (Vol I & II ) by
Summers. I think the land may have been close to Long Island church,
(Sullivan Co.)
We have another researcher who thinks John Cate Sr., Jefferson County, may
have been in the area of Franklin, but I do not have the dates handy; I do
not think the dates would work.
Thank you Charles for the information.
Ann

To All,
The following is Cate data from the Minutes of the Holston Baptist
Association Meetings:
First - a couple of notes - - in the beginning It was call HOLSTIEN rather
than HOLSTON.
Second - the name was DUMPLING rather than DUMPLIN.
The first entry I have found with the CATES/CATE name is for 1797.
