History of the Haw River Baptist Church
The church was organized in the year of -- 1893 -- with -33- members, in
a union church, standing on the west side of the river.
The organization sermon was delivered by Rev. L.H. Carrol of Chapel
Hill.
The first pastor serving this church was Rev. John C. Hocutt, who
served for a number of years, and under his leadership the house in
which we now worship, was built and dedicated in the year of --1895--.
The dedication sermons was delivered by Dr. Humes on Sunday at
eleven o'clock. A.M. followed by Dr. W.C. Tyree in the afternoon.
