I can confirm that the census record is from Saline Co. Ark. William and
Julia Cate were my grand parents and Lillian was my mother. The farm was in
the Haskell area of Saline Co. and many of this branch of the Cate family
are buried at Mt. Harmony cemetery in Saline Co. Note...the surname was
Cate not Cates. Thanks...Ray White

Subject: [CATE-L] Another puzzler
I am shame-faced. I know this census information came from 1920
Arkansas,
but
I forgot to write down which county, although I think its Sebastian
Co.
I found this family living on Military Road, 136/144
CATES, William - head - owns home, mortgaged, male, white, age 35,
married.
Can read & write. Born Arkansas, Father born TN, mother born AR.
Occupation
farmer, general farm
Julia - wife, female, white, age 25, married, reads & writes, born AR,
Both
parents both AR
Lillian - daughter, female, white, age 7, student, born AR
Lorene - daughter, female, white, age 4 5/12, student, born AR
William - son, male white, age 3 5/12, student, born AR
Woodrow - son, male white, age 1 1/12, student, born AR
Garland - son, male white, age 11, student, reads & writes, born AR
I can't explain the 5/12 after the ages of Lorene, William, and Woodrow,
but
that's what the enumerator wrote down. Maybe its ages 3 and 4
years and 5
months, and 1 year and 1 month??
Does anyone recognize this William CATES family? He was born about 1885,
and
I can't locate him in my family data.
