Here are some very preliminary indications from the Cate/Cates Family DNA
Project.
1) Both the Cate and Cates Subjects have very strong ties to Scotland
(Recent Ethnic Origins).
2) The Cate/Cates line is quite unique among the haplotypes currently in
Genealogical databases. (Ive checked Nine major databases) Basically, we
match only one group outside ourselves. Interestingly, my first twelve
markers match 1 for 1 with nine members of the Kincaid/Kincade family. You
guessed it, Scotland. What that means is kind of like being from the same
village but different houses, if youll pardon the analogy. This goes back
over than a thousand years at this point.
3) Further, my line seems to have resided on the border region of
Scotland/England because the further back you go, the more English
relationship I have to the point it is much greater than the Scotch. Ill
try to look up what tribes were in that region during that period but I
suspect that it was Celt at that point. Additionally, You can trace my line
to the Viking migration but I do not carry the Viking racial markers.
4) Which brings up another point. As part of the baseline for this study, I
had my Hapolgroup tested. Interesting, though it is listed as an R1b, it is
only a fair fit to that group. (a Hapolgroup is a type of racial
determination though not in the normal sense of todays use of the word.
More like the Clan from which you originate) I think you can expect as the
Science of DNA testing grows, youll see us leave the R1b designation. Were
just not a good fit to that Hapolgroup but for now, we fit better there,
than any other group.
5) As more members join, well get a much clearer picture and you can expect
that the Cate/Cates lines may very to some extent. Itll be interesting to
see who is where.
6) More to come
