Marianne,
We have emailed before when you found my query on Genforum. I may have
already sent you this information, I'm not sure. In the 1850 census on
VanBuren Co. MI,
Sirruden is listed as 25 years old, Farmer, 400, born New York
Malvina, 23, born New York
Adelia, 3, MI
Charles 6/12 months MI
James, 72, New Hampshire
Elizabeth, 69, Vermont
Naomi Laraby, 75, Vermont
All the above have the surname of Cate except Naomi Laraby.
You may already have this, but if you haven't seen the 1850 census of Van
Buren County, you would probably enjoy seeing all the Cates listed. I had to
order it through LDS because the Knoxville library did not have that film.

Hello Dianne, I know I have talked to you before. So glad to see you on here.
I am also searching for more information on Sirruden Banges (Bangs) Cate and
Malvina Rachel Lane.
Sirruden was born April 22, 1825 place unknown and died Feb. 25, 1898 Ransom,
Ill.
Malvina Lane was born Aug. 15, 1829 Syracuse, NY. and died June 22, 1918
Streator, LaSalle Cnty. Ill.
I would love to get any further information on my Great Great Grandparents.
Lorenzo is suppose to be a brother to Sirruden. It is also our understanding
that there may be brothers Henry and William also. But I have found nothing on
them. There are so many out there and no way to bring it all together.
It is also said that three brothers were ranching. Either in Illinois or
Wisconsin. Sirruden drove the cattle to Chicago, Il. and sold them. While he
was away doing this the other brothers got into a argument, sold the farm and
left. When Sirruden returned they were gone and never knew where they went. The
brothers divided the money for the farm leaving Sirruden what he had gotten for
the cattle. He then went to Syracues,NY. where he met and married Milvina.
Maybe he had other family there.
I would love to hear from someone who knows anything about any of these people.

Eleanor:
A couple of questions about the dates you show in your post on Robert Cate
(abt 1670-abt 1729) of Henrico/Surry County, Virginia. I'm guessing you
have a couple of typos, but thought I'd check.
> He entered into bond to serve Peter Wyke, a Quaker, of
> Henrico County in September 1698 for a term of four years as
> a prentice in the trade of shoemaker.
My records show the date as September 1689. How sure are you?
> Will book 8, p. 7, recorded 15 April, 1700, Surry County,
> VA lists inventory and appraisement of estate of Robert
> Cate,decd.
My records show 15 April 1730, which fits better with the birth of his
children and the rest of his activity.

Brian,
You're right on both dates. I have that in my records but somehow goofed up
in the transcription. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hello List,
I'm searching for the ancestors of Sylvanus Cate who is listed in the 1850
census of Van Buren County, MI. He was 24 in 1850 and born in NY, married
Mary Amanda Hinckley 12 March 1846 in Van Buren Co. MI. With Sylvanus and
Mary are two children: George Edgar, 2 years, and Rodney, 5/12 months.
Since Mary's father was Rodney S. Hinckley, I thought maybe Sylvanus' father
might be named George or Edgar or both.
Other Cate marriages in Van Buren Co. IL were:
Cate, Lorenzo, married Baldwin, Julia Ann on 4 Sept 1839
Cate, Sirruden, married Lane, Malvina, on 19 May 1844
Cate, Amanda, married Smith, Newell, on 27 Sept 1846
If anyone has a clue about Sylvanus' ancestors, I'd appreciate hearing from
you.
