August 16, 1809
James Cate, born after 1799

There was also a James Cate who married Nancy Jones, September 12, 1809 in

I just received the death certificate for my gg grandmother, Rebecca Cate Eaton, who died in 1911. She was born in Joshua, McMinn County, TN in 1832. She married Charles H. Eaton in Athens, McMinn County, TN and died in Polk County, TN. I cannot locate the town of Joshua in McMinn County. Although I know her maiden name was Cate, I have not found her parents. It's me, just messing around again : )
I've been going through a very large stack of e-mail, some of which is a year
or more old, and I've come up with a few questions. Please keep in mind that
this data was provided "by others." I'm sure they proved their research, so
I'm assuming this information is correct.
Elisha Cate (son of John Cate, born about 1757 who married Sylvia Sykes) and
Huldah Cate (daughter of Rev. Thomas Cate, born about 1733 who married Sarah
Estridge) were married July 3, 1799. They had four children, that I/we are
aware of:
Alfred
James
Ephraim
John
Now, there are several of us that are looking for parents of our ancestors
(including myself, but I don't see Joseph listed here) and the dates of birth
for these folks do fall after this particular marriage:
John Cates, born 1807 in NC
James F. Cates, born 1806 in NC
Ephraim Cate, born after 1799
Since we have no information on Elisha & Huldah's kids, could these be
possible links to these parents?
Also, according to Brian Bivona,
Delilah Cate is the daughter of Charles Cate, Sr (born about 1739, NC, died
aft. January 12, 1811, Jefferson Co, TN) and Sarah BALDWIN. Delilah married
Gibson MANARD.
J.W. Foster said he/she is of the John SR.>James>BALDWIN>Mary Cate line. What
is the birthdate of John Sr, etc? I notice you're the President of the Trust
Fund for James BALDWIN Cate Cemetery, where Baldwin's grandfather, John Sr,
is buried.
TWThomason(a)aol.com says he/she is a descendant of Patsy Cates, daughter of
Isaac Cate and Susannah MANARD.
He/she was asking about the relation of Susannah to "the other Manard" lady.
No first name of the other Manard lady was given.
These names above just seemed to jump out at me, probably for no good reason,
but thought I'd share my frazzled brain a bit.

Charlie I have tried everything at geocities!! They
do not recognize my username as even having a site and
when they started the shortcut url's my username
showed up as therresar which has never been my
username and it comes up as an invalid username. My
username was therresa and after the merge I registered
and it became therresa.geo so somewhere they made a
mistake and after writing them for over a year I gave
up.
If you are going to move your site you might want to
try the freepages at rootsweb. They seem pretty
stable and not hard to use.
Looking forward to seeing your new site and your new
info!!
Well we will just have to go find Kenneth! LOL
He must be in hiding somewhere on the internet:-)
I wonder if he is still having the Cate/Cates chat on
IRC??

Hi cousins and friends! Your help will be appreciated.
I know that most of you are into genealogy as I am and if you
have ever visited an older cemetery, you know what deplorable

permit building on cemeteries if they are beyond a certain age?

Ben, could you post your data on Hannah, daughter of William Cate &

Don,
No the 1830 doesn't give Margaret Carrigan as the wife of R. D. Cates.
It is speculation research but I don't follow you on the 1820 Orange Co.
Robert D. Cate, Pg. 292, I have:
3 males under 10, 1 male 16-26, 1 male 26-45
3 females under 10, 1 female 16-26 & 1 female 16-45
If Robert & Margaret were married 13 Sep 1810 the six children under 10
would be the right ages to be their children. The older male & female
16-26 could be a brother & sister his father died prior to 1820.
Have you talked to Elva Kirk Richardson of Virginia? Robert D. Cates &
Margaret Carrigan are is line. Their son William Monroe Cates who
settled in Obion Co. TN.
Can anyone straighten us out on this one?
Roberta
Hi,
Looking for help with regard to Frederick Cate, born August 2, 1800, in
Milton, New Hampshire, married Lydia Gilman Dearborn on February 14, 1822,
and died in Effingham, New Hampshire on May 1, 1878. We know that they had a
son Royal Austin Cate, born 1845 and married Minetta Ann Leavitt on August
16, 1872. Know nothing about Frederick's parents or siblings, if any.
