Stacey, I checked for your John Reuben Cates & don't have him. However,
I checked my Knox Co. 1860 census transcription and there is only one
Cate in Knox Co. in 1860. Unfortunately, I have not been able to
identify him.
Calaway Cate 20 b. TN
Mary 22
Angeline 2
Not named 3/12
There is another Callaway Cate b. 1827 son of William & Susan Locke but
he and his father went to Iowa in 1848.
Does anyone know who the above Calaway Cate is? This maybe a middle
name.
Roberta
PS I will be gone for a week so will follow up on any answers when I get
back.
Searching for the family of Whale H. Cates, b. January 22, 1854, Mill Shoals,

Any help that you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I only have one Cates so far in my family tree. No one seems to know who
his parents were or if he had any brothers or sisters. If anyone has any
information on him, I would love to get it. His name is John Reuben Cates
and he was born on February 8, 1862 in Knoxville, Tn. Does anybody know who
he is?
Thanks,

I don't know if this is the same person or not, but I have a Willie
Cates, b. 1872 in Lynchburg, Moore Co., TN. He is the brother to my
maternal grandmother (Amanda/Minnie Bell Cates) and their father's name was
William Newton Cates, so chances are that 'Willie' was actually William.
I'd be happy to share/exchange further information on the family if you
think there might be a connection here.

Good Morning to all;
I am hoping to find someone who can give me a listing of the children of
Robert Cate the Quaker, Shoemaker,
I am trying to figure out who is who. Please don't send me your down line as
yet. I just want to confirm that I have all the children of him. I am trying
to determne who was in Orange county NC in or around 1810/1820 and whom had
left for other parts of the county.
Thanks to all of you in advance for your contributions.
Susan
Hello out there in cyber space,
I am assuming that I am still subscribed to the CATE list and that like me
all of you are vacationing, gardening, canning, or whatever and so have had
no time to work on genealogy. I have got the last child back to school (I
can't believe that this is the last time I will ever have to go to a
highschool football game, band concert, school play, PTA meeting, I think
you get my drift.) and I am ready to start some serious research. As a
reminder the family I am looking for:
Samuel Cate b. 1805 Tenn. (likely McMinn, Bradley Co. area) d. Cherokee,
AL 1870's
Marr. 1. Mahala Horn b.@1800-1810 Wales, GB d. @1844-1846 Tenn. or
Murray Co. GA
Children;
1. Thomas b. 1835 Tenn. d.1857-1860 Tenn.?
marr. Malissa Morris, Murray Co. GA 23/5 Dec. 1852
2. Felix Grundy b. 1838 Tenn. d. 1862 of measles
Cumberland Gap with Tenn.36th Inf. CSA
married Sarah Elizabeth Toppins of Cleveland,
Bradley Co. Tenn
3.Mary R. (pos. K)b.1840, may have married a Mullins and
possibly lived in Tullahoma Coffee Co. Tenn.
4. Mahala Clementine b.1842, possible marriage Cobb
5. James M. b.1843 married Letha Brown, Jackson Co. AL
20 June 1865
6. Phobe A. (twin to James M.) b. 1843, m. Ben Reeves probably in AL.
7. Marshall Marion b. 1844, served in Co. B 4th Alabama Cavalry
(Russell's) then transfered to Co. E 3 (Forrest's) Tennessee Cavalry
Marriage #2 Mary Jinkins b. 1813 NC d. 1870 Jackson Co. AL.
Children:
1. Miriam Loucinda b. 1848 d. 1900 Gadsdon AL
marr. George Crabtree 3 Oct. 1869 Jackson, AL
2. William R. b. 1853 mar. Debby jane Matthews 16 june 1872 Jackson
Co. AL
3. Ava Nola b. 1858 Cherokee, Al
4. Simon Gideon Nero, b. 16 Apr 1860
d. 24 Apr 1945 Rome, Floyd Co. GA
married Sarah Jane Reynolds 29 Dec 1885
5. Mary b. 1862 Cherokee, AL
Does anyone recognize any of these names? Does anyone know who Samuels
parents may have been?
Thanks for your help,
Kathleen
