>From an unidentified Syracuse, NY, obituary; he died 11 April 1905:

Charles M. Cate, of No. 322 Hall avenue, East Solvay. Mr. Cate was born at
Silver Hill, Sussex county, England, 73 years ago last October. Mr. Cate
came to this country in 1844, and he had been a shoemaker in this city ever
since, retiring January 1st last. Mr. Cate was located first in the old
Fifth ward, but for thirty-five years he was in Geddes street.
Forty years ago yesterday Mr. Cate's wife died. Mr. Cate leaves three sons:
Charles M. Cate of East Solvay, William F. Cate and George W. Cate of this
city. There are eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, born a week ago.
Owing to sickness in Mr. Cate's family the funeral will be private from the
home of his son, No. 322 Hall avenue, East Solvay, Thursday afternoon at
2:00 o'clock.

I'm researching Abby Cate of Franklin, Merrimack, NH, born
1825 to Jonathan Cate. I believe her mother and sister were
both named Elizabeth. I don't know for certain what happened
to the family, but Abby moved to Lowell, MA and married in
1848 to Edward Oliver Fenderson. I'm guessing the family
also moved to Lowell were a few of her brothers were also married.
Regognize this family? More info at my website.
I'm looking for info on and connections to this Cate family
of Franklin, NH.
