I am still searching for any information about a William Catchpole, born
Horham, Suffolk, UK, about 1771 and who served in the 47th Foot. This
British Army Regiment saw action in the Peninsular war in the early
1800's and this William was probably involved in it. Work on the name
index for this regiment (by others) has yet to start at Kew and it is no
easy matter to tackle these records.
The 1851 Census for Heigham Place, Norwich UK, records William
Catchpole, an 80 year old army pensioner born Horham, Suffolk, living
in a Boughton household. Was he a Catchpole linked to the Boughtons by a
distant marriage?
I also have a birth certificate for a Maria Catchpole b. 1858 at Mill
Street, Lakenham, Norfolk, UK, mother Rebecca Catchpole. I have been
unable to track them down in later years and would be interested to find
out what happened to them.
Finally, are there any Catchpoles on this list who are related to those
who lived at Rushmere, Suffolk, UK or Croydon, Surrey, UK?
