Sara Warneke writes :
So it is stories you want, huh? Well, as an obsessed London fan from way
back, and an escapee from life as a medieval professor teaching English
history, I now make my living writing alternate-reality novels set in
London (trust me, it works). Curently I'm in the midst of a four book
series set in London, ranging in time from the late Bronze Age through
to the Blitz of World War Two.
Archive CD Books has proved absolutely invaluable for my research. You
have so much available for London - I can trace the history of houses,
streets and people through four centuries. Love it!
Thanks to everyone associated with Archive CD Books.

Mike James writes :
I'm not sure if this is a particularly big success story, but it helped
me.
I found my great grandmother listed in the Sussex 1911 Kelly's Directory
(Reference #0128) letting apartments in Cuckfield. Interestingly, I have
a photograph of 3 generations of the family outside a house of the same
name taken, I believe, about a year earlier.
Thanks to this CD I now have a lead for further research.

Jackie writes :
Yes I would like to see more on maps and not necessarily street maps. I
am researching for ancestors in Penzance, Cornwall and was fortunate
enough to see the 1842 Tithe Map in the CRO, only problem is that it
wasn't in very good condition and to be able to read it properly would
have found me sprawled across a map table (due to its size and mine!).
This map has an excellent index.
I was able to obtain photocopies from the Cornish Studies Library but on
A3 paper the clarity still isn't good enough. So yes I would welcome
more maps.
On to the subject of books, there is a book called Collectanea
Cornubiensia by Boase and its content is absolutely marvellous for
Cornish researchers. I only know of 3 copies and when I asked the price
it went into hundreds.
What are the chances of getting this book scanned?

A very happy Sue wrote :
I am a member of Somerset & Dorset FHS and next month our group meeting
is a members evening "post 1837 sources". I am sure that this is an
opportunity to demonstrate the Archive CD Books Directories. If it is ok
with Rod I was planning to take some CDs of mine for demo purposes and
have a supply of printed slips with the website details.
I can even show people an example from the 1851 London Directory which
has helped me with my research. In a nutshell my ancestor John Glover
Stringle married Susanna Butt in 1822 in London. I have been able
to go further back with John as he has an unusual surname but I know
nothing about Susanna. John was very inconsiderate and died in 1848 and
I had no idea what happened to his wife or where she might have been in
1851.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered Susanna listed in the 1851 London
directory. I have sent off for the 1851 census entry and I am looking
forward to finding out where she said she was born.
Rod says :
That's more than OK by me! Thanks!

farmers, hay-binders, labourers, bakers, shop keepers, etc. and their
addresses.
Although titled "Great Britain", this directory covers places in England
and Wales. Volume 1 of the five is devoted to London, volumes 2 to 4
cover the places in the England and Wales in alphabetical order, and
vol. 5 contains a number of the subsequent amendments/additions
published in the next few years.
