I have entered some of the Cockerill family onto Ancestry under the title Cockerills of
Darlaston.
Th first known ancestor was William Cockerill a carpenter, who married at Brewood
Staffordshire England a Martha Talbot (1764 - 1842) in 1789.His origins are unknown.
William and Martha were only married for about four years because he died at Brewood. He
left two children 1)John Cockerill who later lived in Wolverhampton and became a builder
in the town employing as many as 100 men. Between 1842 and his death in 1880 the Cockerill
family had built and owned many houses and streets in Wolverhampton. They built 2 churches
and many other buidings which are still here today. This side of the the family i have
called the Cockerills of Wolverhampton.
2) William Cockerill which is down your line of the family.
William married a Mary Auden on the 12 October 1823 at StLawrence Church Darlaston. His
mother in her will of 1842 left him an inheritance of £200. This side of the family i have
called the Cockerills of Darlaston.
Darlaston is a small town on the boarder of Walsall Staffordshire just some 8 miles from
Wolverhampton.
I do have some birth , marriage and death certificates for some of the family which we
will have to exchange at some time.
Hope you understand all that ?
Regards Paul
PS on the 5th September coming two ancesters from Canada are coming to see me here in
Wolverhamton so that they can have a look around. Their ancestors emigrated to Canada in
1882.
