Just a quick update. While I continue to focus on T.J. Catchings of Copiah MS as the
Slave owner of my relatives, I have determined that he probabaly bought slaves after he
arrived in Gonzales. T.J. started buying land around Gonzales in 1853. John Albert's
death certificate says he was born in Texas in 1845, so John was eight years old when T.J.
arrived. I'm thinking T.J bought a family of slaves that included John and his daddy
Daniel. Hopefully I can find the prior owner on slave sales records in 1853.
After the Civil War (1867), T.J. sold much of the land and went back to Madison County
MS.
