I am a novice at this and my quest is further complicated because my side of the family
are decendents of slaves. The record keeping is hit and miss and the cemetaries may not
have headstones.
I was lucky enough to uncover a document where my grandfather named his mother, father,
sisters and brothers but gave no indication of where his father was born. My grandfather
(Robert) was born in 1882 so I subtracted ~20 years and figure Albert was born about the
time the slaves were emacipated.
I am drawn to Madison county because slaves often took the names of their owners and the
road and my great grandfather have the same name.
I may take a trip up the Robert Trent Jones trail (golf) this fall. If I do, I'll
swing by Madison County and see what I can find.
I don't suppose the book you spoke of is available in any library or on the
internet...I'd like to know if there are references to Albert circa 1860...
