All the research that I've seen has a Henry Catching immigrating from (Manchester?)
England to Virginia/Maryland, but I've never double-checked the sources.
The Henry Catching clan seems to have all moved from Virginia/Maryland to Georgia. Some of
those kin then went to Mississippi. My branch splits off from Georgia and goes to TN and
KY.
No crest that I know of. My understanding is that Catching/s is derived from Kitchen/s,
which means they were kitchen serfs.
The big deal (for many folks) is to trace back to Henry's grandson Dr. Benjamin
Catching of Wilkes County, Ga., who served in the Revolutionary War. (And if I remember
correctly, all 3 grandsons served in the war.) If you're a blood relation, you can
them claim membership in the DAR/Sons of the American Revolution. (I'm an adopted son,
so that doesn't work for me.)
Anyway, you'll need an
Ancestry.com subscription to look at the actual record.
Best of luck to you. Be glad that our last name is Catching and not Jackson or Smith.
