Hi Everyone... It has been a very long time since I have looked at my
genealogy. This is some interesting information here and as soon as I can I
would like to look into this more. I do know the Catania's I have in my
genealogy did adopt the name Catania and to my knowledge we do not know the
name they used prior to this. This bit of information may help me out, so
maybe it will shed some light on some names and help several of us.

Subject: Re; Catania Family in India
Hi Fellow Listers,
I am a new subscriber to the Catania List.
My Grandmother was Lilian Catania, whose Catania family was domicile in
India from the late 1800's
until the mid 1900's.........
The earlist known Catania in India,Thomas CATANIA, came to India from
Velletta Malta.
Thomas returned to, and died, June 19 1852 in"St Paul Street,.Parish of
Porto Salvos, La Valetta Malta".
There is no explanation why Thomas adopted the name CATANIA, as according
to his will, his father was Giovanni BAPTISTA,
a native of Palermo, Sicily, late of Velletta Malta.
While I have genealogical records of the Catanias in India, I have no data
on T.Catania/G.Baptista in Malta or Sicily.
I hope to hear from listers who have data on the Catanias in India or
where to research records of Malta/Sicily??
Seasons Greetings to all.
