The listing for GW Caswell is Benjamin and Charity's Jackson Caswell's 2nd
son George Washington Caswell who was my dad's grandpa. George Washington
Caswell looks like Charity and so did my Grandpa Homer Caswell. Nancy
Savannah Caswell was George Washington Caswell's wife. See the thing here
is that this really isn't that far back for my family. My dad is still
living and like I said before there is a Caswell reunion every year in Texas
for all of the descendants of Homer and Lona Jane Pirtle Caswell (Homer is
Benjamin and Charity's grandson...my grandpa.) My dad was the baby of 12
children so his olders siblings have a few more pictures etc. They have been
gracious and shared with us. This is one reason that we know that Noah
Thomas Caswell was Benjamin and Charity's oldest child etc. My dad's
grandpa George Washington Caswell was their 2nd child. So those in
doubt...we can understand as many of you are searching without this type of
info. We also have copies of Bible pages with records of this family and
their biths etc. They did make alot of mistakes in census back then and
they were not always accurate. If anyone has a question about George
Washington Caswell being both Ben and Charity's son you can probably obtain
a death certificate from Norton Texas...Runnels County which will tell you
the name of both his father and mother, Benjamin Franklin Caswell and
Charity Ann Jackson Caswell. George W. was born in Georgia. We've never had
a question about Ben's children all being Charity's children as well. My
dad and many others are still living and know who their grandpa George was
and who he belonged to. He looks like Charity in his pictures. Also back
then the census most often listed the children and the wife under the male
not the female. We do understand those of you that have advised Charles to
keep checking etc. we are not going to even debate any of that. However the
census that lists all of the children of Ben's household is accurate. My
father says that people can think what they want and speculate but he knows
what he knows about his own grandparents and great grandparents. Bible
records were often considered the most accurate as they were kept by the
family themselves and this is how my wife's grandmother was able to change
her name from the incorrect name on her birth certificate. The doctor was
drunk and wrote her name down as Lucy and no one ever knew until she went to
get her social security. She had to take their family Bible and her sister
to verify and proove that her name was Erna Mae and had been her whole life
and Lucy was the error of the doctor. As we have researched we have found
that often the census has left out a child or misspelled information etc.
then we've found church records of the same year that verified the whole
household. I hope that this helps to explain why we are so certain that
Charity is the mother of all of our Ben's children. Charles stated that we
didn't know what went on in their household....well my dad said that he does
know who George's parents were and he doesn't care what a census says.
There is never a mention of any other marriage of Ben before Charity and
also since the whole family knew of Ben's ordeal with his stepmother after
his own mother had died...he was open about that so it was something that
was shared with the family. Also one would think that this family would know
who their own children were and writing their births down in the Bible etc.
was alot more accurate than any census. If anyone is still filled with
doubt...get the death certificate for GW Caswell that is listed below who is
Ben and Charity's 2nd son and see for yourself. I hope that this helps
clarify some things.
