Hi. Just a comment that may be helpful to you. I think your record should
show Clinton as a town in Dutchess County instead of Clinton County. The
Town of Clinton in NY is very close to Sharon, Conn.

Subject: John Howard Family
Please let me hear from you. I have been researching the Howards in
Vermont
and New York for several years now. I pulled your "Caswells of
Virginia"
off of
Ancestry.com. I believe that Stephen Howard and John Howard were
brothers. Stephen was the father of William (not John) and Earl Howard
was
the son of William. Please see information below. In the meantime,
how
do
you know that John was born in Clinton County, NY? Do you know who
his
parents were? I have John's Revolutionary War papers, which state that he
enlisted in Sharon, CT.
William Howard (Stephen1), son of Stephen Howard and Elizabeth Ray, was
born
October 6, 1792, in Connecticut. His occupation was merchant. He
resided
in Clinton County, NY (Beekmantown) He died March 27, 1875, in
Beekmantown,
NY and is buried in Shelters Cemetery. He married twice: Rhoda
________,
in Beekmantown, NY, who was born Dec. 10, 1802 and died Dec. 20, 1821 due
to
childbirth complications. (Note: I figured this out through the
little
piece of paper noting births and deaths.) (Could her maiden name have
been
Tylee?) He then married Elinor [Ferris], (married ab. 1825), who
was
born
1794, in New York. Elinor may have been married before (I believe
her
first
husband may have been Daniel Ferris). Elinor died January 25, 1878
and is
buried in Shelters Cemetery, Beekmantown, New York.
William Howard's children were:
by Rhoda
William Earl Howard (William2, Stephen1) (used the name Earl) was born
March
16, 1819 in Clinton County, New York, and married to Lucy Storrs in
Clinton
County. Earl died on January 29, 1869, in Will Co., IL.
Rhoda Howard (William2, Stephen1) who was born Dec. 10, 1821, in Clinton
County, New York, married Benjamin Chessborough.
by Elinor [Ferris]
Charlotte Ann Howard (William2, Stephen1) who was born August 28, 1827 in
Peru, Clinton Co., NY, who married William Hiram Burt, who was born Oct.
6,
1825
Delia Mariam Howard (William2, Stephen1) who was born July 20, 1830 in
Clinton County, NY, died March 1922, Matheson, Colorado, was buried in
Almena, Kansas, and was married to Daniel Worthley Harris, November 7,
1852.
Daniel Worthley Harris was born May 24, 1830 and died December 15,
1907 in
Almena, Kansas.

Clinton County (Beekmantown), New York, p. 6.
NOTE: Inscription on William Howard's tombstone:
Now I am safe from all temptation
All the storms of life are past.
Praise the rock of my salvation.
I am safe at home at last.
William Howard owned a big farm in Beekmantown, ran a place called Howards
Tavern" and imported Canadian ponies.
Inscription on Elinor Howard's tombstone:
These are they what have came out of
Great tribulation and have washed their
robes and made them white in the blood
of the Lamb.
