I just spoke to the New Salem town clerk. New Salem was est. 1775. The
town
hall burned down in 1853 destroying the records. A book was compiled
by
(possibly the state, she wasn't sure) from cemetery and personal files. I
know there is a "New Salem Vital Records to 1850" book by the NEHGS. The
only record she had in her book was:
Elija Caswell m. Molly King 19 MAR 1787
could this be the same Elijah? I know that women often used nicknames or
middle names if there name was Mary or Mercy or Molly, even Polly. Which
sure doesn't make our efforts any easier!!
