Is anybody researching the CASSELL line in New England?
According to "family legend" our CASWELL name was originally CASSELL, but
we don't know when the change took place, or IF it took place. There are
plenty of Caswells around, but what about Cassell or Cassel?
My CASWELLS come from Attleboro, Taunton, and Middleboro, MA with links to
Johnston and Scituate R.I. , but my brick wall is Elijah Caswell born 1751
in MA.
I received a message on a message board that the researcher had found that
some cousins to some of his ancestors changed their surname from Castle
and/or Cassell TO Caswell from about the 1850s onwards. They came from the
Warwickshire area of England. He said to respond if I was interested, so I
did, but unfortunately, never got another reply.
In the Scituate Online Records, there's an Ezekiel Cassel born 1725, son of
Timothy and Deborah, but nobody else, so how about it? Any CASSELs or
CASSELLs out there? And any link to any CASWELLs?
Thanks,
Judy
