<< (II) John Caswell, son of Job Caswell, was born in March, 1742, and died
in
South Kingston, in 1779. At the time of the Revolution he lived in Newport,
but removed his family across the bay in a small boat, landing at what is
now Narragansett Pier. He married, December 31, 1761, Hannah West, born in
1740, died August 3, 1775. John and Hannah (West) Caswell were the parents
of John, mentioned below. >>
Does anyone have any more information on the next few generations from Job
Caswell? A few cousins that I've found through email all trace our Caswell
line back to Elijah Caswell who was a drummer in the Revolution. Our line is
from this area, so I'm guessing that there is some connection. (Either that
or they thought 'Caswell' had a nice ring to it and changed it accordingly.
I've been told that the family name used to be Cassell or Kessell)
There was also a recent message on a message board saying that "family
history" had it that a granddaughter of this Elijah was a full-blooded Native
American. My dad and uncle told me that there was certainly Native American
in the family. Has anyone linked their Caswells to any of the New England
Native Americans?
I'd be really interested in finding out where our Caswells came from!
Thanks!!
