Hi Cherylynn - From the "THE CASWELL FAMILY, THE DECENDANTS OF WILLIAM
CASWELL", comp. by Mary Underwood Caswell, page 12, the will of Matthew
Casewell, III, it reads:
Item - I give and bequeath to my beloved Daughter, ELIZA. CASEWELL, the
plantation and Land belonging to the same, known by the name of Briffits
Island, to her & Her Heirs & assigns for Ever.
This book also states that nothing is known of this Elizabeth except
for what is in her fathers will. This indicates the possibility that
she may have died after the will. Since he left her the land, something
had to be done with the land. If I were to search on this line, this
is the way I would go. I have had a lot of good information from deeds.
If she did not die, and married, was the land sold later, and did she
relinquish her "dower" rights?
If she did die, did someone else administer the land?
Some times this is hard to do, but perhaps you can rent film from the
Family History Centers of deeds in this time frame, or there may be
books on land/deeds for this locale. Hope this will help.
