Sacombe House
Lord Belasyse of Worlaby sold Sacombe in 1669 to Sir John Gore. Later it
was purchased by Sir Thomas Rolt, president of the East India Co & Governor
of Bombay. He passed it to his son Edward in 1710. Edward was MP for
Chippenham, and was succeeded by his son Thomas, who held the manor in 1728
and died in 1754, leaving a son Thomas of the 1st guards, who was killed in
action in 1758, when Sacombe seems to have come to his youngest sister Mary
Constantia Rolt, who married TIMOTHY CASWELL of the Guards,mp for Brackley
My interest in this snippet is that I have several Timothy Caswells at
'loose ends' and am thinking that this one might be one of mine. After all,
Ed Rolt had reason to be in Wilts if'n he was the MP for Chippenham. And if
Tim Caswell was mp for Brackley, (are we talking here of Berkshire?) then
thats only a stones throw from Upper Upham where one of my Tim's had a dtr
Diana and she owned Upper Upham Manor.
Any ideas?
