G'day Mike from Adelaide Sth Australia
I was idling through records for Saskatoon,Canada, and came across this
entry in the Nutana Pioneer Cemetry so I pass it on verbatim. No harm done
if you already have it which going by your pages is entirely possible but
you never know in this hobby so here goes:-
Block la No 31
This is the gravesite of Minnie Florence Caswell. The original marker on
this grave identifies her as the infant daughter of R.W Caswell and F.B
Caswell. Minnie Caswell diedin 1896 at age 4 months.
Robert Caswell was23 years old when he came west with the first group of
Temperance Society settlers in 1883. He was a telegraph operator during the
Northwest Rebellion of 1885. On one occasion he was sent out to repair a
cut line and was taken prisoner by a party of Metis. He knew one of his
captors,though,and was later released unharmed.
Caswell went on to become one of Saskatoon's leading citizens before his
death at the age of 91 in 1951.
The marker of this grave is of a standard grey granite. A small lamb is
carved on the face and the inscription reads 'Safe in the arms of Jesus'.
A newer flatter marker has been placed on the new gravesite in front of the
original marker.
Regards
William
