Hi Mike,
I don't have other photos of them, so can't respond to resemblance issue.
But, the photo really looks authentic. I grew up in Cascade, about 75 miles
from the mining area of the Caswells, guns were standard wearing apparel.
By the way, are the Caswell's natives of Palmyra? I am tracing a lead
connecting these brothers to the Mormon Church at some point. Palmyra can't
get much closer.
I can't locate the e-mail letter I was going to include so will summarize:
We have located the burial of Arthur Bennett Caswell (one of the three
brothers, "Ben") in the Morris Hill Pioneer Cemetery in Boise, Idaho, along
with his parents William and Maria E. Caswell and another son (brother of
Ben) whose name was Lou. Still no leads on Court (the third brother). All
this from an obit of Maria E. Caswell who died 7 May 1905 at age 66. Also,
from the Idaho State Historical Society Genealogy Library is a card in
their card catalog that states: "William Wallace Caswell 19 May 1835 - 26
Apr 1906. Sons discovered Thunder Mountain."
In the 1900 Boise County Census (Banner Precinct) are two Caswells: Alvin
Casswell b. Apr 1861 (34 yrs) Minnesota, father born in New York and mother
born in Michigan. Also Daniel Casswell born Marf 1865 (35 yrs) in
Minnesota. Father born in New York, mother born in Michigan. I checked the
1870 Minnesota Census and found a number of Caswells in Anoka County. There
was an Alonzo Moody Caswell (74yrs.) who was identified as having been born
in Vermont.
If any of this rings bells for you, let me know.
