Unfortunately in Rhode Island in the early 1800s there were several Philip
Caswells. One was in South Kingston and was the son of John (Job's line) and
Hannah West. William Caswell has done on outstanding job of researching this
line which has remained in New England. Another is, I assume, your line of
Philip Caswell and Mary Chappell with son Philip who married Elizabeth Rose.
My Caswell line is yet a third with Philip Caswell and
Sarah(Sally)(Crandall???) who are placed in Jamestown Sept 12, 1801 by the
family Bible of Oliver Caswell their son born on that date. I believe but
cannot prove that my Philip is the one on page 91 of the 1810 census, Newport
County, Jamestown.
To my knowledge I am the only genealogist working on this line. No one of
this family is on the Caswell CD or any other mass media resource (LDS or
Ancestry.Com). Wishful thinking would assume that this family also goes back
to Thomas Caswell of Taunton but our stone wall is Sept 12, 1801. The
information on the 1850 Venango County, Pennsylvania census would have Philip
born 1770/1771 in Rhode Island. I was wondering if my Philip might have been
that lighthouse keeper.
Any help would be appreciated and I would gladly reimburse you for any
expenses.
