Hi all,
Happy Holidays!
My Caswell line has been fairly elusive, but I'm hoping someone out
there might recognize a link.
My third great-grandmother, Catherine Caswell was born in Boston in
1826. In 1854, she married Charles A. Curtis in Boston. He was
originally from Maine, but became a miner in CA during the gold rush.
He brought Catherine to CA after their marriage. According to a
genealogy I have on the Curtis side, Catherine's father was William
Caswell.
I did find William in the 1820, 1830 & 1840 census records in the 11th
ward of Boston. Based on the composition of the family, I believe this
William to be Catherine's father. Unfortunately, I have been unable to
find the family in 1850. The was a William Caswell who past away in
1855 in Boston. I believe he may be the same gentleman, but have not
seen all the probate records yet.
Based on Catherine's census records, both her parents were born in
Maine.
William and his wife would have been born 1790-1800. The family seems
to consist of 3 sons & 3 daughters.
If the probate is his, he had a son-in-law named Alexander B. Houghton,
who administered his estate.
I did find a William Caswell born in Poland, Maine to Job and Theodora
Caswell, but have know idea if he is the same at this point.
If anyone has any ideas or sees any connect, please let me know.
