These are my Caswells. Maryanne Caswell (who married George Hilliard) is my
first cousin twice removed. John J. Caswell married Patience Ethel Smith.
They are my great grandparents. I don't however see any connection. (Not
that that necessarily means anything.) I know of two more Caswell
researchers in my line and I will forward your letter to them, but there are
at least 2 other Canadian Caswell researchers on the list that don't connect
here as well.

Subject: [CASWELL list] Pioneer Girl, Maryanne Caswell
Hi,
Yesterday, my mother showed me a very interesting book about Caswells.
Caswell, Maryanne (compiled by Grace Lane)
1964 Pioneer Girl McGraw-Hill Company of Canada Limited:
Toronto
This book contains letters from Maryanne to her Grandmother Caswell in
Pinkerton, ON describing the trip to Saskatoon, Clarkes Crossing, SK.
settleing there.
Her uncles, John (w. Patience from Cherokee Iowa, s. Albert)),
Robert-Rob-(w.
Frankie Irvine, s. Wallace) and Joe had gone ahead to Clarkes
Crossing (1883) with the Temperance Colonization Society (1882 went from
Moose Jaw, end of the rail, 200 miles north to found Saskatoon)). Her
father, John (w. Mary Martin) (c. Maryanne,1873,-Mrs. Thomas Hilliard-,
Martha, Jen, Andrew, John and Mabel) came later from Palmerston with his
family to join his brothers.
Mention of saying goodbye at the Palmerston station to the Knowles,
Alexanders,
Watts and Fawcetts.
Mention of Alex Caswell who had a grey mare on the mission field
in
Dakota, the same grey mare carried Uncle Joe in rebellion times in 1885 to
Battleford from Saskatoon with a message.
A cousin Tom is mentioned as being the city solicitor for
Orangeville.
Mention is made of Aunt Mary (Martin)'s sister(?), Aunt Catherine and
cousin Mac, at Burnside station.
Mention is made of Uncle Ronald Martin' widow and children at
Portage
La Prairie.
Mention of an Uncle Will Ross.
Now how do I fit into all this? I am not sure, but my Caswell connections
originate in Palmerston, ON.
