I'm not following the Taunton line, so I've forwarded your letter to the
Caswell listserver. Hopefully someone there can help you.

Subject: A Caswell Question!!
I have been trying to do my family's genealogy. As you
undoubtedly
know, there are some things that just don't seem to fit in no how, no
way. My great, great grandfather's name was Lorenzo Barnard. He was
born in Harvard, Massachusetts...married Evalina Page in Bedford,
Mass...and then ended up in Taunton, Mass. He was a jeweler there. My
mother seems to think that he owned his own store there. He died at the
age of 41 on March 4, 1875. He was a member of the Massachusetts
Volunteer Army during the Civil War. He kept a diary of the nine months
he served. My mother is transposing it, and I am typing it from her
longhand. He speaks often throughout those days of receiving a letter
from Mrs Caswell...or Mr Caswell. Other times, he mentions that he had
written to them. Once, he said that he had received a newspaper from Mrs
C. My thought is that they must have lived in Taunton at that time, and
it probably was the Taunton newspaper. My Great Grandmother was their
only surviving child. They thought so much of this couple that they
named her Elizabeth Caswell Barnard. She was born in Taunton on August
16, 1862.
Can you shed any light on this situation? Perhaps you have a book of
the Taunton people...maybe someone owned a jewelry store, and Lorenzo
only worked for him. Perhaps it was this Mr Caswell. Don't know. Would
love to find out.
Thanks for your help..
