Hi - Almira Caswell shows up in the 1870 census in Parkersburg Ward 2, Wood, WV pg 10. She
is living with her father, Alfred age 66 born MA and a 26 year old Edwin Caswell born MA.
Alfred is also know as Alferd Casswell. Hope this helps.
Sue

Subject: [CASWELL] Alfred Caswell -- Chesire County, NH 1850 U.S. Census
Hi List,
I am new to the list. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about Alfred
Caswell born circa 1805 in New Hampshire (according to census); however, it
would not surprise me if he was actually born in Massachusetts. Alfred appears
to be married to Mrs. A. Caswell (Abigail Arnold?) born circa 1811. Children
listed are Mary J. (15), Nathan (10), David (6), and Almira (3).
To the best of my knowledge, Almira marries John P. Bubb circa late 1870s
probably in Lycoming County, PA. These two are enumerated in the 1880 Lycoming
County, PA census in Nippenose township. Also in Nippenose is Whipple and Olive
Caswell who are 72 and 68 respectively. Also in Whipple and Olive's household
is daughter Emma L. Caswell. Emma never marries but did eventually move to
Bloomsburg, PA to live with brother Edwin C. Caswell. Emma left a will which
was proved in Columbia County May of 1899. In this will, she mentions Myra P.
Bubb as a cousin and her daughter Emma Bubb. The will indicates Myra lives in
Williamsport and the 1900 Lycoming County census shows John, Myra and Emma
living in Williamsport.
I have not been able to locate Almira or Myra Caswell in 1870; however, a 14
year old Almira Caswell born in New Hampshire is enumerated in Parkersburg,
Wood, VA 1860 census. She is living with a Wm. Caswell (53) born in Nassau
(according to
Ancestry.com); however, I could make a case that the N is actually
an M; therefore, Massachuesetts is likely the birth place. Also in this
household is 20 year old New Hampshire born Nathan Caswell who might be the 10
year old living with Almira in 1850.
I have only traced my wife's Caswell ancestry back to Whipple Caswell. If
anyone has Whipple's ancestry, do you show William and Alfred as brothers to
Whipple?
Thanks for your time and responses are welcome.
Gordie
