Does any one have info on Herbert Caswell born in Wales around 1885-90?
He is my husbands grandfather. Herbert had several brothers. He left
Wales after a family dispute and went to England. Married a woman named
Mae (?). They had one daughter named Laura (born in England) and a son
Howard born on an American ship in Canadian waters in 1913. They settled
in Berkley, California. Herbert never spoke of his large family he left
behind in Wales. Even his wife knew little. He did tell her he had about
seven brothers.
Thanks for any help.

We know that Sarah Caswell (nee Knight) was the wife of Samuel
Caswell in 1858 when Sarah's father, John Knight, died. The Knights
lived in Limehouse in the East End of London England. We know that
Alice A Caswell, their daughter (or possibly daughter-in-law) lived at
10 Marlborough Road, Upper Holloway, England in 1884 when Elizabeth,
John's wife, died.
Can anyone tell us any more about these Caswells?
John and Elizabeth Knight are the great-great-grandparents of my
wife, Rosemary Brown (nee Knight).
Bill Brown
Thanks for the info. I am forwarding it to the CASWELL listserver

>Thanks for creating a great webpage. I am desperately searching for the
family of my gg-grandmothe, Electa Jane Caswell, and was glad to find a
place that might be able to help me. I have tried to add my search request
to your page, but everytime I click the "ADD" button, it tells my computer
that it is a "bad request" and I get no further.
>
>Would it be too much trouble to ask if you could add it from your side as
the Webmaster? If you could, here is the info:
>
>Electa Jane Caswell was born 11 Mar 1821 somewhere in New York state. She
married Justus Hall, Jr. in La Grange Co., IN on 8 Apr 1838. They moved to
Bureau Co., IL sometime before 1840, and lived there until 1855 when they
moved to Bremer Co., IA. In 1866, they moved to Jasper Co., MO where she
died 14 May 1890. I have found a Joseph Caswell who lived in La Grange Co.,
IN in the mid-1830s, and a Joseph Caswell who also shows up in the 1840
Bureau Co. census. He disappears after that. I believe he is either her
father or an older brother. This is all I know.
>
>I have searched through microfilms, books, census reports, land deeds, sent
e-mail queries, etc. for two years, and have been unable to tie Electa to
any New York family, or find how she might be related to this Joseph
Caswell. I would greatly appreciate any help or guidance you could give me
in this search. Thank you very much.
