I was reviewing some papers i had and came
across my ancestor Elijah Caswell's pension
papers filed in 1820 while he was a resident of Dartmouth,Mass. i never
noticed it before but
he says that he enlisted at Northampton,Mass. - - Northampton,Mass
might as well have been Siberia from Middleboro which is where he got
married not
much after that. He was in "Capt. Allens Co."
and was a drummer. He served at the Battle
of Long Island and finally discharged in Connecticut. old Elijah was b.
in 1751/2
his wife was Mercy Seekins of Raynham.
they removed to Kingston, then Plymouth.
i find it very interesting that NORTHAMPTON
is where he listed. I thought for sure this fellow
never left Bristol/Plymouth Co. i have never
seen any Caswells out that far during that time period.
does anyone have any ancestors from that way or others that served for
"Capt. Allen.
unfortunaley i do not have access to Mass. Soldiers and Sailors to get a
better picture.
thanx,
john
It wasn't his 1st name. Caswell Massey is a soap and perfume company in New
York City.
Very famous it is too!
We even have some of our CASWELL listserver members who are descendants from
this line of Kazzies.
Thanks for keeping your eyes open George!

age.
Lois Caswell - who is she ?
john scott-ferree
seek the ancestry of Joseph Caswell and
Bathsheba of Malden,Mass. They had a son
Elijah b. May 20,1750 at Malden,Mass.
My ancestor Elijah Caswell of Middleboro,Mass was b. 1750/51 not sure
if this is him or not - stranger movements
have occurred before.
The Taunton Caswells had a few Josephs
but none that I could see that went to Essex Co.

The Caswell Clan
Volume 7, No. 1
May 1998
Hello Again!
A little over a year ago, I bid this newsletter goodbye. My life had
become a zoo so I chose to cease publication, especially since the Caswell
Clan has a wonderful resource connected to the Moonrakers webpage. Things
have settled down somewhat and I have been very successful in getting some
genealogy connections researched. Some of those connections were directly
with the Caswell family.
While this publication will not go back into full swing with issues 3
to 4 times a year. I am going to attempt to put together an irregularly
printed newsletter with the hopes of getting it out at least once a year.
It will be printed for a few people who do not have email access and a
couple of genealogical societies that would like paper copies. The other
way it will be distributed is through Mike Caswell's site. Keep your eye on
that page.
Gilbert Caswell
Gilbert Caswell. The reason this newsletter started in the first
place. Gilbert and Polly EGGLESTON Caswell were the roadblock in my
research. This year, that all changed. Here is an update on the
information I have on Gilbert. I am STILL having a roadblock with Polly so
if anyone has any clues about who her parents are, any help would be
appreciated. Remember Polly may be a nickname.
Gilbert Caswell, son of Gilbert and Hannah FOSTER Caswell, was born
April 17, 1799. He married Polly Eggleston who was born October 27, 1800
around 1821 probably in New York as their first six children were born in
New York. Updates on their children can be found in the UPDATE section of
this newsletter.
Gilbert, b. In 1753 to Stephen and Mary BLACKMAR Caswell, d. 10
November 1812 and Hannah FOSTER Caswell had at least five children, Gilbert,
see above; Elizabeth, b. 7 June 1802; Anna, b. 24 January 1804; Clarissa, m.
John Crook; and another daughter, b. 5 November 1811. Gilbert was in the
Revolutionary War in Capt. John Marcy's Company, Col. James Reed's Regiment.
At this point not much is known about Stephen or his father, Peter who
married Elizabeth Barney. Peter was the son of Stephen and Hana
THRASHER/THRESHER Caswell. He had nine siblings, Ephriam m. Phebe Caswell
in 1787; Timothy; Deborah; Lydia; Hanna; Ruth; Stephen; Deborah m Edmond
Tilson on November 4, 1715, d. 1754; Joseph b. May 18, 1678, d. 1755.
Stephen was the son of Thomas and Mary (nee unknown) Caswell. If you
are familiar at all with the Moonrakers page you probably have some idea of
the children of this family. They are briefly listed here: Stephen, Thomas,
Peter, Mary, John, Sarah, William, Hannah, Samuel, Elizabeth, Abigail, and
Esther. Thomas was the immigrant from England. A good source for vital
records-type information the children can be found in the multiple volumes
of the Massachusetts Vital Records books some of which have begun to be
transcribed in this issue. Others will follow in the next issue published.

I have a Caswell Cook, b. somewhere in NC to unknown parents abt. 1808...my
great great grandfather. Does anyone on the Caswell list know anything about
a Caswell woman in the Carolinas who married a Cook man about 1800?
John Cook
I found a reference to a Martha Caswell, and sent a message to the
submitter. This is the response I received:
> Sorry no more information about her. Since she is the mother of Jay Cooke
> who
> helped finance the Civil War and railroads to the Pacific Northwest there
> maybe more records about his mother.
Does anyone know more about the Martha mentioned above?
I am looking for information on:
Martha CASWELL b. sometime around 1775 - 1790 in NY or MA
parents : Joshua Caswell, Sr. and Alice Reynolds
Thanks for any help.
Kathy

Dear List,
I've been lurking on the list for a while and thought I'd ask if anyone knows
of any CASWELL families in the Robertson Co., TN area during the time period
of 1750-1850. In particular:
Lillie CASWELL b. ca 1755
md. Richard Ira CRUNK
lived in Robertson Co., TN, may have come from VA or NC.
Thanks for any leads.
Sincerely,
Anne
