Hi folks, hope you are all enjoying fall so far. It's beautiful here in
Connecticut. The weather is just right (low 70's) and the color is
unbelievable! I'm still working on our Caswell's. As you all know I was in
an accident on Sept. 29th and that put a big damper on my Taunton ventures.
We had to pare down to one vehicle (1996 Nissan Frontier 4x4) so trips have
to be in between Ross's work schedule. Meanwhile, I am working on the
database.
I know I promised to send out pictures and letters I found. I was having a
problem with my scanner (I accidently deleted some stuff!). Ross has taken
it over, so I will get those items out as soon as I can. Be sure to keep
sending me your Taunton Lines.
Does anyone relate to the line from Berkley? I am having a real hard time
finding any data on this town. Of course the Vitals to 1850 are not at the
library, I was hoping to get a lot done there, but it looks like a trip is
in order.
Take care,
Your cousin...Nancy Caswell
I have uploaded a 'searchable database' of the Taunton Ma. Caswell line to:-
www.moonrakers.com/caswell
see the link grid for (bottom left) to connect.
Please supply any connections you may have in the form of a gedcom file. I
will add them to the existing database.
Please ensure you DO NOT duplicate any persons already on this file -
EXCEPT - the ON PERSON who connects.
I can then simply merge the two file together joining your branch to the
tree.
Lets see how large we can make this tree!

For those of you who use Sanborns Mayflower Quarterly as a bible like
I do you will
be pleased to know that he isnt an ancient fossil nor is he dead nor
stopped doing research on the Caswells. In fact - he is working on
generation 5 as we speak !!
and hopes get it in next years quarterly magazine.

works you can
address it to him courtesy of the New Engand Historic Gen Soc., 101

ps nancy I havent forgotten you !
The information contained here, shows a CASWELL Moated building, near
CARSWELL MARSH, and also near where one of the Caswell coat of Arms was
found - Binfield.
If you remember, my Hugh de Carswell (1284ad) probably came from this
Carswell Marsh.
We're getting closer!!!!!!!! :-)

I have just received an important looking letter today, signed by Koreen K
Caswell, it had an eagle on the logo and came from Washington DC. (It had be
convinced for a second!)
This is the same (Noreen) name used by the Hulberts/ Burkes people who are
flogging 'family tree books! My father in the UK got letters from Noreen K
Caswell, but she was living in Ramsbury, Wiltshire then.
BUYER BEWARE! I would say that this is probably along the same format as the
other books these guys flog.
Basically, a word processor sticks the CASWELL name in to strategic points
on the text, then prints a long list of names and addresses gleaned from the
phone book (at least thats what it looks like!)
It may also have a roster of names from the Civil War. But I doubt if there
is anything specific in this book. (You can get this info from other
sources - at less cost)
I think you'll find every book for every family name is exactly the same
except for the listing at back.
And lets be honest, who on earth wants a listing of every Caswell in North
America?

sorry to beat a dead horse
Several of us Australians are researching our Carswell roots from Scotland.
As yet we are unconnected but would appreciate anyone out there with
Scottish Carswell's to contact us with any details so we can try for a
match. My particular Carswells came from Paisley, Scotland.
John CARSWELL married Elizabeth BUCHANAN and had the following children:
Margaret - 1818
Eliza - 1821
John - 1823
Thomas - 1825
My line is Thomas, who married twice and settled in Australia.
Any info on the above or any others from Scotland would be much appreciated,
Regards,
Judie,
from the land-down-under but now living in
Maine, U.S.A.

Researching the names ABSON, CARSWELL, CHENEY, KEEPENCE, LEDGER, McCRACKEN,
SMART, WALKER, WOODFORD from Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland and
MOORE from England and Massachusetts/Maine, USA.
I have forwarded you letter onto my CASWELL listserver.

Hi Gang, sorry you haven't heard from me in a few. Was in a car accident
last week and I'm just starting to get back around again. I'm hoping to get
going again by next week. We're down to one vehicle now, so Taunton trips
will be sparse for the time being. We hope to get over to the archives, so
if anyone has Taunton area Caswell's you want me to look at over there, let
me know. Keep the e-mails coming, and be sure to let me know what you are

Thanks, Mark! Jeez, see if i trust the Rampant Scotland Newsletter again, aye!
:-}
Hope all is well in NH! My 17 year old son is going to visit my folks in
York, ME this week and can't WAIT to have lobster and clams! He is
interviewing at U. Maine, Orono, U. Southern Maine and New England College.
I so wish I could accompany him.... I miss it there so much; not a whole
lot here in Illinois except corn and soybeans.
Cheers,

The web site for the LDS CD-ROM was incorrectly put in the Rampant Scotland
Newsletter from what I've found out. The correct address is
http:www.lds.org (not "com"). I'm copying Scottie from the Newsletter so
that it may be corrected in next week's edition. Thanks to all who pointed
this out.
