Samcasey (Hoskins-Caswell)
by Daniel David Lewis Frommherz
In answer to your last post which bounced back to me without delivery.
My fourth Great Grandmother Hopestill Hoskins has several William
Hoskins as father, (married to Mary Cole) grandfather (married to a
Hoar)and great grandfather (married to Sarah Caswell) until you get to
Henry born probably in London but living in Cork Ireland at the time his
son William who eventually married Ann (Hinds) was born.
I don't know how many there are probably 4 as listed above and I believe
that I have the names of the wives correct. This information was hand
written by my Grand Aunt Bertha King. So Hopestill married Amos Nahum
King son of William and Mary (Andrews) King of New Salem, MA. Amos was
the first son of his second wife Mary Andrews. William King followed
his sister (Abigail) to New Salem from Salem where she became the second
wife of Amos Nahum Foster.
After William's first wife Hannah Mitchell died William lived at the
Foster house. William named his first son by Mary Andrews for Amos
Nahum Foster but since Amos Foster had a son whom he also named Amos
Nahum Foster.....Amos Nahum King named his son Nahum Amos which became a
tradition instead of Jr. they just reversed the name.
Amos Nahum King is a documented Revolutionary War Veteran. Four of his
children were born at New Salem, then the remainder were born in New
York between 1785 and 1810. Nahum married in New York to Serepta Howe
Norton in 1807 two daughters were born in NY then they relocated to
Madison County Ohio there the final 14 were born.
In 1841 when my Second Great grandfather was 8 they moved to Franklin
County Ohio and in 1843 moved to Carrol County Missouri, in the spring
of 1845 (May 2, 1845) Nahum led 5 wagons 26 members of his family in
three generations to Oregon. On April 17, 1846 he arrived at the
Luckiamute River Valley in the low coastal range of Oregon later renamed
King's Valley in his honor of Benton County.
Does this Hopestill fit your data base? I have seen the name Haskins as
well as Hoskins and have been indoctrinated with the fact that these
Hoskins were English settlers to Ireland before coming to America.
Hopestill's mother is probably Mary Cole.
