Taken from the Dallas Weekly Herald, 12 April 1873
Don Igancio Castro was buried in this city on Friday afternoon. By reference to the
mortuary report we see that he was ninety five years old, and was born in San Antonio,
Texas. The deceased was a soldier under Gen. Jackson and participated in the battle of
New Orleans in 1812. He was also a soldier during the Texas revolution and fought with
the lamented Faunin (hard to read) and the Texas patriots at Goliad. Very few of our
citizen knew of the death of the old patriot, and even after the funeral tickets were
distributed, not many knew who Ignacio Castro was or what was his history. (San Antonio
Herald)
