Last week end Microsoft loaded an updated Security System onto my computer.
I didn't know it was coming, it arrived at my door. I shut it down until I
had advice from Computer Consultant as to what I should do with it. When I
shut it down, everything in e-mail went out the door. I can find no evidence
of it in my data base. Therefore, ALL CasterL mailings are lost to me. I
have tried to find them to get back the data lost. I had typed a few off,
but this morning, a few minutes ago, my printer also went on strike.
Therefore, no lists, no printer and a puzzled community out there with my
ongoing lists. These lists are parts of the base, minus a clear connection.
I had hoped someone would recognize their line, and communicate, even though
I did not give a good reading of what they were seeing. Sorry. Got carried
away with what I knew, but lost the people that couldn't read my mind.
Sorry. To those affected, I'm truly sorry! AND I apologize for my lack of
identifying the people. The people put out there somehow fit my puzzle but
as Jo pointed out. I had her Bertha incorrectly identified. I still do not
know who she was talking about becasue of the wiping of my e-mails. So, my
apologies to all of you who have suffered without murmuring. Your patience
is to be commended. Especial thanks to Grace, who sent me all her knowns. It
has helped. And Jo connecting with the Bertha helped too. I found out later,
that Mrs. Lebbeus Custer, also lived at Dayton, OH. I have a handdrawn chart
by Mrs. L. E. Custer that was mailed to me. It only clearly had the line of
Jacob Custer.
Unfortunately, there are more than one Jacob's too, in both the lline of
Paul and Nicholas. So it has not been easy going.
Norma,
I am confused as to all these lists you are posting to the Castor Web Site.
It would be nice if they had a heading so we all knew what they are about.
Are you searching for information or asking for confirmation of your
information?
I noticed several people have notified you that you have errors in their
family line. Did you make the change in your database?
[It was duly corrected when noted. Norma]
We communicated last week concerning my grandmother, Bertha Hazel Custer.
Did you forget already? If you still have copies of mail you received last
week you will notice I informed you have my father listed as the second
husband of my maternal grandmother! To my knowledge my father was never
married to my grandmother. I hope you have changed it in your database.
Are you getting your names from the Castor Directory?
[My response. I didn't see the correction and waited for her answer.
Apparently it was one of the wiped messages. Therefore, I never saw it. She
had always been faithful in any communication to me. I couldn't understand
why she hadn't answered me. So my apologies, JO. I simply never saw it.]
If you have a date for the Bertha you are looking for I will search in the
Castor Files and try to find her for you. My grandmother was born 1884 and
died 1970 and lived all her life in Wayne Co, IN, except for the time she
was working in Dayton, OH, so don't think she is the Bertha you are seeking
info on. By the way, if I may ask, why are you searching for a Bertha and
what do you hope to find? Is she part of the puzzle of your family?
[My response: I only have what the letter mentioned of Vivian>Charles T.
Custer> etc. I entered her name as she connected with that family. I had
nothing to add to it. I simply had never gotten the information. It was the
first I knew about her. The letter said she was a sister to the gr gr
grandfather. I have no clear knowledge who the brother was. It was not
stated in the letter. He connected back to John Dudley Custer by what he had
in his letters. I never saw the letters, so I can only guess who he was
actually talking about. I thought the line that claimed these people to be
of their kinfolk, some questions could be put to rest. But I did have a
John Dudley Custer in my data base, confirmed from my last two years search
of actual court records.]
Jo
