HENRY MILLER'S STAATSBOTTE
Henry Miller's Staatsbote, Henry Miller's Staatsbote, 1767-1779., Pg. 147;

Rapids, MI Library.,, Settled in Limerick Twp., Montgomery Co., PA. This is
one of 5 principal German newspapers published in Germantown and
Philadelphia during 1743-1800 period, extracting only data of genealogical
import and rejecting what was otherwise irreducible or irrelevant to his
objective. The genealogical data relating to the German settlers of PA and
adjacent territory. From advertisements in German newspapers. Published in
Philadelphia and Germantown, 1743-1800 by Edward W. Hocker, Baltimore
Genealogical Publishing Co., 1981. Staatsbote; German newspaper: Johnathon
Cuester settled 3 Oct. 1775 in Limerick Twp., Philadelphia Co., PA;
surrendered with Burgoyne at Saratoga 17 Oct. 1777, Paroled 1778.
One area alone has nearly 400 mentions to him, yet is never heard about
in any family history. WHO
is Henry Miller. Why did he choose to spend his time extracting this data?
Why did he document it so thoroughly.
I am missing a part of my past. We are never mentioned in any of the books.
I find reference to him in various lines, but never really connected to
where he could easily find lodging? Who is the person that settled in
Limerick twp., changed his name to avoid possible problems?
The Hessians were often very educated persons. They carried writing supplies
with them. The European community make mention of their writings concerning
their time on dute in America. They were impressed with what they saw. Some
of their leaders actually encouraged their men to desert. Why are the
American community so reluctant to stand up and say, we welcome you among
us?
The early histories give reference to these men. Yet today they are glossed
over, forgotten men, that often walked the countryside with rags around
their feet in to keep warm. My own line worked in the Court house
atmosphere. My own grandfather spent 20 years of service as supervisor,
treasurer, school board member in his own local community. Our line has
served the local community since early 1900, and today my neice is serving
in the same capacity. And when our own family were not serving, his sister's
family members were serving there. They were builders, my grandfather
building nearly 200 homes, 186 barns in the area. His uncle's family were
doing the same in King Co., WA.
One Hessian soldier, seeing the distress that a colonist was enduring in the
footgear they daily wore, actually traded his fine boots with the colonist
without complaint. He was used to good footwear, and if memory serves me
correctly, was himself a maker of footwear by profession. Please, isn't
there a tiny clue out there for us? Have had evidence that New Jersey, New
York, Va, W. Va hold Custer immigrants.
