Hi, ALL!
As most of you know, I'm serving in Iraq as a Program Manager for the USAF
under the AFCAP III program. My office is in the Mayor's Cell (like city
hall) at Camp Taji - about 15 miles north of Baghdad. I have agreed to share my
office for 3 weeks with a couple of Army officers who are training the Iraqi
soldiers to help defend their own country.
Anyway, one of the guys, MAJ Crews, just happens to be a distant cousin! He
said that his great great grandmother was Elza Custer Crews and was married to
John (Jonathan?) Benjamin Crews. They are buried in the Shilo Cemetery in
Alton, MO. This is all the information MAJ Crews could provide at this time
other than we figured out the time frame of their life was around the turn of
the century (1900).
He's ANXIOUS (like all of us) to find out more info and to see if there's
anyone out there who could help link his branch of our tree to the rest of us.
He has also met and talked with BG John Custer (yes, there's another General
Custer on active duty) and John is most likely a pretty close cousin to a
lot of us. I'm trying to get in touch with him and see what I can find out.
In the meantime, if anyone has ANY information to help MAJ Crews I'd be most
appreciative!
Take care ... everything over here is VERY busy - especially with the new
(20K) "surge". A good portion of them are either here and/or will be arriving
shortly.
v/r,
Ken
Ken,
I have access to all the resources for Oregon Co., and Alton, MO. I
also know some CREWS people personally who still live there. I am going
to work today, but will send info online as soon as I get home this
evening....
Don't worry, I'm sure I can help you. I have the cemetery book, the
census, the probate files, the marriage listings, and the history book
just to name a few.... hang in there, and BE CAREFUL!! Know that we are
all praying for you and supporting you!!

Ken,
I sent you a ton of stuff on the above people for your friend,
privately. Did you receive? If not, I can send to the list.
