Castor Association Members:
When you renew membership for 1999 you are asked to supply Patricia Caster
with your lineage back to the farthest ancestor you know of. Rather than
having Patricia type all of that information for almost 400 members for the
directory It would help her if as many of you as possible would send her a
GEDCOM by E-mail. If you have Family Tree Maker version 5 the instructions
for creating a single ancestral line GEDCOM file is as follows:
Open the FTW file
INDEX: bring up the oldest ancestor in the line, e.g. Paulus Küsters.
Click, VIEW: Click,Outline Descendant Tree
Click, CONTENTS: adjust number of generations to include yourself
Still in CONTENTS, click Individuals to Include;
Check Direct descendants only from Paulus Küsters to
Click, Change secondary individual, OK
Select your own name from the index and click OK
That will shorten your tree to include only the ancestors without their
siblings.
Click FILE: Copy/Export Individuals in Outline Descendant Tree
Give the file a name, [Castor.FTW], for example, and click Save.
If you wish to edit the file first, open it and edit it. Then make a GEDCOM
of it.
To Make a GEDCOM of the new FTW file:
Open the file
Click FILE: Copy/Export Family File
Save as type, Scroll to GEDCOM
Destination Options: FTW; Version 5.5; ANSI
Click Save.
Then you can send the file as an attachment to E-mail. The GEDCOM is best,
because the FTM file will probably be too big for some E-mail servers and
will take much longer to send and download. Patricia will change the GEDCOM
back to the FTW file and will be able to copy and paste when she makes the
membership directory.
