George's farm was one half mile from the business of Lester William
Custer, Masury, Ohio, one mile south of Orangeville on the state line on
the Sharon-Hogue Rd., Masury, Ohio. The area where they lived was known as
the "Dutch Ridge" settled by a class of people that were very industrious,
but kept pretty much to themselves. They did not mingle much with others.
It was north east of Yankee Run, which the negroes escaping to freedom
used. The Arthurholt mills were nearby. George S. identified the time frame
that the family settled at Burgh Hill, Hartford Township, Trumbull Co., OH
as 1826, which agrees with the tax records. The area was noted in the tax
records 1827-1829 as Canfield..
