Received the results of a thorough, paid search for the surname
"Cudigmister" (as originally spelled in Donald M. Custer's research
"Descendants of Paul and Sarah Ball Custer") of the DAR Library in
Washington, D. C. today. The result is the same as the search of the
Salt Lake City Mormon Library in Salt Lake City, the Palatines to
America Library in Columbus, Ohio, and the Reformed Church Library in
Lancaster, Pennsylvania. After listing the sources searched, Jean D.
Strahan, Genealogist of the DAR Library, states:
"Nothing was found at all. This effort substantiates the theory that
this Cudigmaster (of various spellings including ones beginning with
"K") is not a surname."
She suggests that I try to connect the FLEISHER FAMILY of Berks
County, PA with our CUSTER FAMILY. Perhaps there is a will,
administration or probate file for FLEISHER. Also all land records
should be carefully examined for either a deed of gift or a quitclaim
deed which would show a FLEISHER/CUSTER connection.
If any cousins who are descendants of Peter and Elizabeth Custer of
Berkeley County could help with this research, it would be greatly
appreciated by all. We have some very diligent researchers among us and
it would be wonderful to have our line well documented and errors
corrected.
Sincerely, Grace
