I received a letter today from the daughter of our oldest member of the
Castor Association, Carra Lindsey. Carra would have been 101 on March 3,
1999 but I am sorry to report that she passed away on February 26, 1999.
Her daughter said Carra was looking forward to being able to say she had
lived in three centuries. Carra was in her nineties when I was membership
chairman and her dues were always paid up at least two years in advance.
She said she wanted to make sure she didn't miss an issue of the
News-Caster. (Some of us don't even buy green bananas!)
The letter says, 'We had the funeral on her birthday. It was upbeat, sad
though joyous and warm. The church was nearly full, which meant a lot, as
she had outlived most of her friends. The church women put on a buffet and
we had a birthday cake as part of the buffet'.
The daughter asks us to continue sending the New-Caster as they plan to
continue Carra's research and hope to make it one of our Reunions.
Carra was born March 3, 1898 in Conway, Iowa, daughter of William H. and
Lucy E. (Custer) Nendick.
