FYI:
I just returned last night from a research trip to Norristown, PA. and
I may have the answer to my Custer ancestor, but now need to find proof.
Everything points to John Custer Jr. and Magdalena Funk as his parents.
Vivian Taylor of the Montgomery County Historical found a book on the
Funk Family history from late 1890's, which records the same children
listed in the Castor book with one exception. The name of one of the
last children is George not Joseph. Magdalena's grandmother was Barbara
Cassel. Looking at the Cassel Family history book, also printed c.1896,
it also lists a son named George and not Joseph. I have also found an
entry at the FHC, for a George Custer c.1827 submitted by a Daniel Funk
and currently await that film from Salt Lake City.
I have thought for awhile the George was a son of Christian, but this
would make him a brother, thus Benjamin Franklin and Franklin Benjamin
Custer that went to Altoona would be first cousins!
John Custer Jr. did not have a will in Montgomery County. It appears
that he did not own property in his later years. Does anyone have any
additional information on John and Magdalena or any of their children's
living relatives? Thanks for all the help.
Regards,
Linda Parker
