According to family history, James Toland (b. 1849, IL) married Martha
Caster (b.1850) in the early 1870s in Schuyler County, IL. She was
supposedly a daughter of Stephen Linzey Caster. They had 2 children,
Dempsey Edward Toland (b. 1872, IL) and Ivy Toland Helms (b. 1873, IL).
Martha died in 1884 in Webster County, MO. James is then said to have gone
back to Illinois and married Martha's sister Lewella (or LouElla; b. 1867,
IL) within months of Martha's death.
James and Lewella then had at least 4 children of their own. Their
children were Kingsly Toland (b. 1885, MO), Effie Toland Brumback (b. 1886,
MO), Ettie Toland (b. 1888, MO) and Clarence L. Toland (b. 1890, MO).
James died in November 1903.
James did have wives with these given names and the children listed. Are
Martha and Lewella familiar to anyone? Was either one really a daughter of
Stephen Linzey Caster?
Thank you for any help!
