Hi Linda-
Guess you are the resident expert....and it's nice to have you around! ;-)
I've been researching the Ryerson family for many many years and of late
have been focusing on a branch of the family including a George Boice
Ryerson. I need your educated input on the validity of this family tradition
which I quote from the Ryerson Genealogy printed in 1916.
"George Boice Ryerson was born in New Jersey in 1824 and died in San Diego,
CA in 1896. He left home when a young man and went west. He became a noted
Indian fighter and was one of General Custer's scouts. He later went to
Mexico where he became possessor of three famous ranches.......and was made
Governor of Lower California................................."
Well, we all know about "family traditions!"
But is there even a grain of truth in the
Indian fighter/Scout assertion?
I've tried to investigate but hardly knew where to begin!
Thanks for your help and advice.
