Anybody recognize this line? I think it links. Another Custer in the AmRev
on the Patriot side. I find this fascinating. I thought they were all
Loyalists or conscientious objectors.

Hi Mike,
Jacob Leisle is no longer with our chapter. I do have a few of his records
and his
aplications. His line was:
Patriot Richard Custard m. Elizabeth Brumbaugh (Brownback)
John Custard m Jane ?
Charles Montgomery m. Elizabeth Custard
All of the Custards were from Chester Co. PA in the 1700s, thn from Mercer
Co.
during the early 1800s. I found no mention of a Rebecca Custard/Custer.
Looks like the line tied together much earlier than the Rev War. Hope this
helps.
Dave Leonard

Dave,
I am the Historian for the Kirkwood Chapter in NW DE. On beginning to
browse your site looking for movements of the DE Continentals (my project
as
Historian, since, as a college student, I can do it when I have
time), I
noticed a Custard Patriot Ancestor from PA. In all likelihood, he is
related to myself & thus Gen. George Armstrong Custer (to jump a few
decades).
Do the member claiming membership through Custard (Jacob James Leisle) or
you have any family-linking information on Custard? My Patriot Ancestor,
Christopher Rex (not the Chester County one- unrelated; not the
Philadelphia
one- his uncle, but the Northampton County one), married Hannah
Holder,
whose mother was Rebecca Custer/Custard/Kuster. These families lived in
the
Lehigh-Carbon area (except for the Rexs...err Ru[umlaut]gers who
stayed in
Germantown). The Kuster line goes back to the late 15th/early 16th
centuries in the Palatinate. The name is the title of the person in
charge
of church property in German, although I have one professor who is
Dutch
who
said this is Dutch (go figure, all the mixing along the border).
Thank you,
Michael Gallagher
